Willie Mae Rock Camp!!

Urban Assembly School of Music & Art, Brooklyn!

Last week, we had a very interesting gig.
It's "Willie Mae Rock Camp" at the Urban Assembly School of Music & Art, Brooklyn!
It was at school, We rocked with over 8 years old girls.

When I enter the music room, fill the classroom we had a lot of rock girls!
The girls staring at THE SUZAN......
We can't disappoint the girls.....
In the set list full of pop-rock tune for the day was organized, the girls did great excitement!
Their dance was freely and powerfully!
At the end of the last song, The girls charge up to Vo.Saori, and they gave her a lot of hugs.(Girls50:Saori1) I call it a "Group hug". lol
It was a amazing scene......

After the gig, We had Q&A time, and school lunch time. It were very exciting. I felt" back to school!!"

Usually, We rock with adult rockers. Now, I feel like I discovered the joys of the new ones that were Rock Camp with Young Girls.

When the girls become a real rocker, I hope to be working of rocker. And then, I want to play with the girls.

bounce cake @cafe orwell!

Last Saturday we played for the event called "Bounce Cake".

It was located around Bushwick.
We haven't had many gigs around Bushwick,
but in my opinion Bushwick seems kind of developing places among young people and culture
as next Williamsburg.
There seemed filled with indie bars, venues, and creative minds.

Every time we play show in a place where we haven't played, it's always fascinating to us.
So we switched some set list for this special night in Bushwick.

In this year, we basically start our show with "Rondo" as the first song,
but at bounce cake, we started with "Home".
I felt that the mood in cafe orwell was changed from night bar to poppy dance party floor as we started.
We also played new song which is kind of hard core punk song!
It was very challenging to us but kind audiences seemed they enjoyed it a lot:)

After we finished show, the guy who managed sounds talked to me then said
"Your show was so fun! it's like party dancing sound as B-52's!"
I was little bit flattered because I've loved B-52's since I was 14years.
But I was so glad to be able to share pleasure of music with everyone at the same time!

Till the event is ended, Sabrina( who organized this great event) and her friends worked a lot and helped us to bring gears.
I realized every great event is composed by such great cooperation.
We would like to say "thank you!" to people who were in cafe orwell that nite!
Really looking forward to next dance party with you guys!

P.S
We love Bushwick:)

Bushwick

Gig at Don Pedro!

Many young people came to see us at Don Pedro!
So their reaction was interesting.
Mosh! Dance! And, Singing loudly!
The way they enjoy the music was just the very blossom of youth.
Thanks for that, I really enjoyed playing the gig.

Shooting for The Suzan's new music video!!

We had a shooting for our new music video with Pomp&Clout at Brooklyn studio.
They've shot our video called "HOME" before.
I love "HOME"'s colorful & pop view of the world.
So I'm glad to work with them again.
I can't tell you about new video so much….because it's secret yet.
It would be contrastive work to "HOME".

It was hard shooting. We used many lights, which was very very hot, and much smoke. .
But The stuff from Pomp&Clout and we did all our best.
So I wanna show you this new video soon!!

Saori

Pianos & Trash Bar

We had 2 shows in lastweek.

One show is at Pianos on Thursday night.
Pianos is a hot venue in Manhattan!
Played with Pretty Good Dance Moves. It's our friend Jimmy's band.
Pianos is memorable venue for us. Because We played here at the first time(5,6 years ago) to came NYC.
This was the 5th or the 6th times to play in Pianos.
It's midnight on weekdays, But many people came to Pianos!
And a lot of acquainted friends came, And We played very very new song, It was really fun gig.

And the second show is on Sunday night at Trash Bar Brooklyn.

It was the first time for us to play at this venue.
It's a heard rock and metal music venue.
No problem! We love hard rock and metal!
People said something to us and bought some CDs & T-shirts who saw the our show first time.
It was happy gig.

Last week we had only two shows.
I really want to play every day!

Realistic! Thrill! The stage is the devil!

NICO THE SUZAN

Summer Screening on the Rooftop!

Last night we participated to the event called Rooftop Film which is screening underground films on rooftop.
We played as the opening for the film before screening.

Unfortunately when we played, it was rain so we should play inside,
but it was so fascinating for us to play in such a huge auditorium with great visual effects.

The audiences last night were totally different from ones in usual venues.
It seemed many kind of generations who love movies gathered there.
It's unfamiliar for us to play in front of all seated audiences,
but once we started playing our feelings were the same as we play in usual venues.
We played our show enjoying as usual.
It seemed great seated audiences received such our feelings.
We could see their smiles and figures clapping their hands with our music from stage.
Some people stood up and danced although it was seated show!
How free there was!

After we finished to play, it was not rain anymore, then screening on the rooftop was started.
The film was titled as "Co-independent Lesbian Space Alien Seeks Same" and was SF comedy.
As we can know from that unique title, the contents of the film also were filled with freedom.
The story was kind of love story between lesbian alien and a woman in NY.
I think this movie is funny film which transcends many categolies.
The summer night sky was filled with audience's laughing and the atmosphere there was heartwarming from the begining till the end.

I think NY is the city which is greedy for interesting things and excitements and the city expresses freedom in many ways.
The gig we played last night was rare experience for us because we could go through such deep NY culture.
And this experience stimulated our minds so now we are also eagar to do something interesting!

Thank you so much all who came to Rooftop Film!
We are really looking forward to share enjoyable feelings with you in the future:)

THE SUZAN

THE SUZAN

Rooftop Film

Northside Festival & Crest Fest '11!!

We played 2 shows last weekend, for Crest Festival (Fool's Gold) and Northside Music Festival (Tom Tom Magazine show case) .
There were many indie music listeners at there .
And the audience sang and danced to the music.
Some audiences knew our music very well. We played so hard with sweat.
I hope people who love THE SUZAN's music grow more.

Played with Titus Andronicus!!

We played with Titus Andronicus & Dinowalrus in MusicHall Wiliamsburg at April 30th.

We are good friends of Amy from Titus Andronicus.
The first time we met her was when we were in Tokyo, maybe 3,4 years ago.
At that time, She was not in the band yet.
We couldn't imagine this situation.
She is lovely & intelligent girl at the off stage. But she is so rock with her guitar & her violin on the stage.
Her headbanging & shout are DOPE.

Full capasity floor+Moshing audience+Titus Andronicus+Dinowalrus+THE SUZAN = FUN!!!

Thanks!!!

Blood Bunny Party!!

When I heard "Friday the 13th", I always thougt about famous horror movie of Jason.
However, for me that negative horror images were switched into happy moods last night,
it still contains crazy images like Jason though...:)
Our gig on "Friday the 13th" was totally filled with pleasure and kindness!

On the way to Union Hall, we are lost in Park Slope,
but accidentally we met nice ladies who were just heading to Union Hall to see our show.
They helped us how to get there.
It's kind of sweet episode for me:)

As we can know from them, audiences in Union Hall were totally cozy and kind.
Many people seemed they already know our music.
and people who didn't know us also knew how to enjoy our music.

When we finished whole songs on setlist, one nice guy shouted to us.
"Play "Take it or Leave it! Please!"!!"
As you know, it's one of our cover song of the Strokes.
We didn't plan to play that song at all but there is no way to avoid playing that song.

I pulled the girl who seemed to know this song and lyrics on stage,
then finally played "Take it or Leave it".
Everybody sang along with us, there was no distance between stage and floor.

At last, Saori said "you can download this cover song on websites."
but another guy responded "Live is much better than download!"
I agree with him.

Our first gig in Union Hall involving many happenings was memorable gig for us.
I think happening is one of good parts of live.

Thank you so much Haily who invited us such a cozy party,
and all who enjoyed crazy Friday the 13th with us!
We really hope to see you soon!

「Take it or Leave it演ってー!」と。。。
Take it or Leave itのリクエストです。

Take it or Leave it"を演奏!
Take it or Leave it"を大合唱!

We had a great time at A PUNK ROCK BENEFIT FOR JAPAN RELIEF(Japan All Night Benefit Show) on the other day.

We could collect 1200 dollars for the donation at this event!
It's not big amount though, we believe this will be some help for Japan's reconstruction.

We tried to send the power of music to the audience at the venue.
At the same time, we also tried to send it on livestreaming.
For the Japanese people, and sent via video streaming.
Did you feel it?
Hope you get this and could make Japan more activate with the power of music.

I know it will still take a time to rebuild, we can go forward.
We never give it up and keep sending this.

At last, thank you very much all who participated this event.
Also really appreciate you great friends and staff, who helped and supported us so much.

Thank you.

Play for Japan, Benefit Concert in Japan Society

Since huge earthquake and Tsunami occured in Japan, 1 month's passed.
During this one month, I realized how tough to rebuild cities, especially Northern East part of Japan.
However, every time I realize that kind of facts, I'm always surprised with toughness of Japanese people.
Now they are very highly motivated to overcome such disasters.
Sometimes it's so strong that it encouraged people outside Japan.

Last month, I saw many words like "Pray for Japan" in the U.S.
I know it's very important and thankful thing to support Japanese people mentally.
Many japanese people received their kindness and love and thanked.
However I think it's more important taking action and doing something helpful for Japan.

Last night, we played for Benecfit concert in Japan Society NY.
We really thank to Japan Society because they gave as such a great chance to help Japan.
Whole prformance was broadcasting via Ustream so many Japanese people could watch our performance.
During we played on stage, we felt as our thoughts linked with ones of Japanese people.
If we live the place far from Japan, our hearts are so united and close.
We put all our thoughts we have had since earthquake on our music.
If our performance could be any help and encouragement for Japan, it's our pleasure.

Arigatou Japan Society and all who enjoyed our music last night!
We really hope we can meet your smile in the near future:)

Japan Society

New Friends from New Zealand.

Last week, we went to see STREET CHANT, a band from New Zealand.
We don't much chance to meet with the band from New Zealand though
this time, we had a nice story.
They found us The Suzan because they heard our song playing on the radio in New Zealand,
and came to see our stage at SXSW, and then invited us to their gig in NY!
What a curious coincidence, isn't it?

They have good impressive drumming.
Street Chant is Punk-band as we say, though, their drumming is free style, doesn't fit to that type.
And they changed the stage set on the way, which seemed really come with a twist.
I think the drummer taught himself drum though, his drumming skill is amazing,
and believe it's very important to pursue their own style.
(Rie)
